NCAA Self-Study and Recertification a. University just completed a year plus long self-study of areas in rules governance, equity, Academic support and student-athlete welfare. The NCAA peer review team was on campus May 10-12 to complete interviews and gather final information. The report will provide a glimpse into the health of the program. A final report will be submitted in August 2005. V. Academic Progress Rate (APR) a. The NCAA released the data for a new report that measures academic eligibility and retention for athletic grant-in-aid recipients for a one year period. Athletes are given one point if they are academically eligible from one term to the next and given one point if they return to the institution. In a one year period, the most points a student can earn is four (4) if they remain all year on athletics aid. Teams whose overall APR is below the national set cut score (925) could be subject to loss of scholarships depending on various scenarios. Only teams who are below the 925 and have any student who is not eligible and not retained could be subject to loss of scholarship. 2003-2004 was the first year of data collection. The goal is to have a four year rolling average. Data collection for subsequent years are submitted at the end of September. The UAB is preparing a power point presentation for the Faculty Senate after the release of year two data, early October. VI. Reviews of Athletic Policies and Procedures a.
